Choosing the Perfect Patio Furniture

It is not always easy to find beautiful, affordable and durable patio furniture. Fortunately, at Patio and Home Furniture, you can both find a large selection of patio furniture made from the best materials available, and encounter a wide-array of styles and constructions from which to choose. This variation allows you to be a choosy customer; but it also requires you to be an educated one.

You will find many options when searching for patio furniture. You can find patio furniture made from aluminum, wicker, wrought iron, and wood, to name a few. Each one has its advantages and disadvantages and each fulfills a slightly different need. The important thing, of course, is in knowing which material is best for your specific needs.

Aluminum is an incredibly strong, durable and rust-free material. When placed outside, aluminum patio furniture rapidly creates a slim, small layer of oxide around the top layer. This is a fighting mechanism against corrosion, ensuring that your aluminum patio furniture will not disintegrate over time, even when exposed to the worst weather conditions. Aluminum also tends to be quite lightweight, allowing you to move it about the patio or garden as needed. Many of the aluminum pieces come with a mesh seat, like the aluminum sling line, making it a great choice around the pool. There is no need to dry off before sitting down, or to worry about chipping pant or creating rust with the water.

Wrought iron has many similar properties to aluminum, but is generally heavier and needs slightly more maintenance. While aluminum creates its own natural layer of oxide, wrought iron needs to be washed and waxed a few times a year. If you live somewhere with extreme weather conditions, wrought iron furniture can be an advantage, as its weight allows you to leave it in place and guarantees that it won’t get tossed around or damaged from wind or rain. Wrought iron items are often large, necessitating a decent amount of space to present them correctly. Wrought iron creates an elegant, stately look and is perfect in a yard that desires this effect.

For a completely different look and feel, wicker is a great choice for patio furniture. Wicker has been the material of choice for furniture for thousands of years due to its durability and resilience to various weather conditions. While it’s very durable, wicker is also incredibly light-weight. This makes it the perfect furniture for someone who wants to be able to move it about. Wicker is often quite inexpensive and creates a light, airy look and feel.

For a much heavier look, wood furniture is a beautiful choice for blending your patio furniture into the natural surroundings. It makes for a great material for outdoor picnic and barbeque tables, swings and lounge chairs. Cedar wood or teak is naturally resistant to insect and weather damage and is a heavy, durable material. It has a much more rustic feel than other materials, and is, therefore, more appropriate for someone looking for that ambiance. As the owner of wood furniture, you do have to be comfortable with change and natural imperfections. The wood will change color, slightly, overtime and will come with certain natural imperfections in the wood. In addition, you can change the look of wood furniture by painting it or leave it in its natural shade and enjoy the rustic feel.

With so many choices in patio furniture, it’s important to become a researched consumer. Make a short list of the important qualities that you hope to find in your patio furniture. By comparing this list to the choices that are available, you should find the right material to suit your patio furniture needs. At Patio and Home Furniture, we strive to help consumers to find the right type of furniture to suit your individual needs. We are happy to answer questions and to help you with this important decision, so that you can find exactly the right pieces for your home and garden.

How can I decorate a concrete patio with black wrought iron furniture?

I have a plain concrete patio. My house is red/brown brick with slightly off-white/taupe painted addition (next to patio) and trim. I have a black wrought iron table and chairs, a blk wrought iron glider, and 2 black rocking chairs and table. What color should I go with for throw pillows/cushions/outdoor rug. I love cozy cottage style. Any help would be appreciated to help me mak this outoor space relaxing and cozy. Thanks…I

A cozy cottage style is best achieved using a flowered patterned fabric for the cushions with a clearly understood flower and leaf design, roses or lillies or ivy.

If the furniture is out sized you can choose a large pattern. Otherwise choose a medium size pattern and repeat.

If the fabric background colour is a light green, with roses of yellow, pink or red, leaves in shades of green, you need to pick out the yellow, red or pink or green for the toss pillows. Then you can use the same color with different shades, for plates and napkins.

Be sure to avoid tropical prints or you lose the cottage look. And remember that yellow, pink, red colors are typical cottage colors.

For the floor, if the patio is covered, a braided rug or a hooked rug with flower motifs, will give a cottage look.

If it needs to be a weather resistant floor covering, you might still find a hooked rug that you can use. Otherwise a very simple geometric in greens and yellows, or several shades of green will help maintain or at least not destroy the cottage effect you want to achieve.
