Table Umbrella for a Roof Top Patio?
I have a patio on the roof of my condo (4th floor), and I’m buying patio furniture for it – i see that umbrellas are offered in wood and aluminum. Common sense would tell me that aluminum is the better route to go because 1) it’s less expensive and 2) it seems like it has a great ability to bend rather than snap with the wind. Any guidance is appreciated…
We have had both wood and aluminum and I prefer the aluminum for a couple of reasons. One is definitely the flexibility, the other is that wood does eventually break down from the elements. Though we do not have a roof top deck, we live in a high wind area. The aluminum does handle the winds much better but on extremely windy days, we take the umbrella down. With a roof top deck you certainly don’t want your umbrella taking off. Often it is better to put the umbrella into a cast iron stand so it falls over rather than air lifting itself or your table.
