I always see on movie and cartoons, people drinking either water or liquor or some liquid from a gourd with a cork for a lid. So I thought I’d try it but I don’t know what I have to do, like if I hollow it, dry it out, or what?
Also, does drinking from a gourd make the liquid taste nasty like a gourd?
you cut the top off the gourd and using a long handled spoon scrape out the innards and then fill it with warmed gravel. Dont use sand. The gravel will dry it from the inside out. (you would never get all the sand out of it) Make yourself a cork to fit the top, fill it with your liquid choice and………
throw it out and go buy a stainless steel bottle. The gourd flavors everything you put in it and the rehydration of the gourd starts the slimies growing inside it and sooner than you want it collapses into a gooey mess. As soon as man learned to make canteens from wood he dropped the gourd like a slimy potato. The gourds that are useful for carrying water dont seem to grow in this country and are big enough that if you can rotate three or four of them they might dry out again inside.
Yes, they look cool and are a good cub scout project but they are not any kind of useable for everyday work.
