Liriope or lillyturf weeding?
Hi, i have recently given my mother a bunch of Liriope/ lillyturf seedlings.
They are taking a while to take off, they are at the four leaf stage. Anyways as such the weeds around them are a huge problem and my mother is considering spraying weed killer near them to get rid of the weeds growing in the bed.
Can this be done? and other then mulching or putting down newspaper is there another way to ensure my liriopes grow nice and big?
First, you will need to mulch the plants anyway to help them grow nice and big. You can cover each of the liriope plants with a disposable cup or bowl, etc depending on the size of the plant. Than spray all the weeds with round up. Wait till the round up dries then remove the cups. Round up only kills what it touches and is not active in the soil. The one problem is the cold weather. Round up works best when it hot. You may want to wait till next year to do this.
