where is the first usgs marker located?
I have a picture from Signal Mountain in Yellowstone that is labeled as the #1 marker dated 1931
Pres. Hayes started the USGS in July, 1879. I don’t think the surveyors sat in their offices in Washington DC for over fifty years before putting their first marker ever in the US in Yellowstone in 1931.
